Product Description In popular use for over fifteen hundred years, the Hamsa (Chamsa), from the Semitic root meaning five, is a representation of the protective hand of God. Hand amulets are common in many cultures as talismans to ward off the evil eye and, appropriately, many Hamsas have a single eye embedded in the center of the palm to depict God’s watchful presence. Jews were among the first to use the amulet for protection, and today it is commonly worn or hang on the wall as a good luck charm.
This Hamsa - Dove is set with a blue gem, considered to be the color for warding off the evil eye, and plated in silver. It is attached to the lapel with a stud and clasp.
