
In the second century B.C.E., the Jewish people won a large military and spiritual victory over Greek universalism. The victory was cemented with the reclaiming of the temple of Jerusalem. All sacrileges perpetrated by the occupiers were purged, and the candelabrum was lit once again – the symbol of restored light.
