Pewter is virtually carefree. It is low maintenance. The instruction for everyday use of authentic pewter is simple: dust occasionally. For articles that are in regular table use, you only need to wash in soap and water and dry. If left to air dry, you may find water spots.

Please note that authentic pewter is serve-ware: it cannot be used for cooking, baking or freezing or in the microwave. If you were told that a “pewter” article could be used for cooking, it is not authentic pewter.
